The news are out there already, but I might as well spread it: Firefox 3 beta 5 is out. Just updated mine, it looks the same so far, except for a few mildly redesigned icons. Let's see....
As you might know, Apple has released a beta version of its browser, Safari, for Windows. Since I'm a huge fan of beta stuff and have been seriously considering whether my next notebook should be a Mac, I decided to test it for one full day - the idea being that during an entire day I would use only Safari, instead of Firefox. I spend most of my time browsing, for fun and work, so this is a major test for me. Here are my conclusions.

Google has launched this week a technology (I'll call it technology, as I think "browser extension" doesn't quite fit here) that allows you to use web applications offline. This is pretty cool stuff - imagine writing all your emails on the way to work, on a bus or train or whatever, using your webmail client, and sending them off once you get to your workplace's wireless network - much in the same way that you would do today with your email client such as Thunderbird or Outlook. This one is a nice tool for bloggers and designers: all the images I use in my blogs, websites, presentations, etc. tend to come from searching Flickr for photos licensed under Creative Commons. To make my life easier, I created a search plugin for Firefox that will add this search to the little search bar at the top right corner of the browser windows. Since this plugin follows the Open Search specification, it is supposed to work on other browsers as well, such as IE7 (IE6 has no support for Open Search plugins).
